The hub of your electrics.

Electrical Circuit

Need an Electrician? Look no further.

What is a consumer unit?

A Consumer Unit or “Fuse box” board is the hub of the properties electrics and is where all your circuits will come back to and ultimately be able to be isolated from.

Do I need mine upgraded?

Many consumer units do not comply with today’s regulations and could potentially be very dangerous for you, your family, or whoever occupies the property in the event that there is a fault. Modern day consumer units come with Residual Current Devices (RCD's) which in the event of a fault would cut power to the associated circuit(s) within milliseconds.

Older fuse boards do not have RCD protection and therefore would take much longer to cut the power to the circuit in the event there was a fault, in this case it could be the difference between surviving the shock or not. Today's regulations require new consumer units installed to be made of a non combustible material, i.e metal and to be RCD protected.
