Charging from a 3-pin plug is slow. And riskier than you think.

A standard 3-pin plug charges most electric vehicles at around 1.5–2kW — meaning an overnight charge adds 60–80 miles at best. A dedicated 7kW home charger delivers a full charge for most vehicles in 6–8 hours, making it practical to top up overnight every night.

Three-pin plug charging also puts sustained load on a socket not designed for continuous use. A dedicated EV circuit and charger is the safe, efficient, and cost-effective solution — and modern smart chargers let you schedule charging for off-peak tariffs automatically.

Works with all major EV brands and models

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

Every EV charger installation is a complete job — dedicated circuit, certified, and commissioned before we leave.

Charger supply & installation

We supply and fit a 7kW smart charger in the most practical position for your vehicle and property — garage wall, driveway post, or external wall.

Dedicated circuit from consumer unit

A new dedicated circuit is run from your consumer unit to the charger location — correctly sized, protected by its own RCBO, and neatly installed.

Smart charging & app control

Smart chargers connect to your home Wi-Fi, letting you schedule charging during off-peak periods, monitor usage, and control remotely via a smartphone app.

Off-peak tariff scheduling

With a smart charger and an EV tariff, you can automate overnight charging at the cheapest rate — typically less than a third of peak electricity rates.

NICEIC certification

All work is certified to BS 7671 and notified to Building Control under Part P. You receive your Electrical Installation Certificate on the day of installation.

Building Regulations compliance

As NICEIC Approved, we self-certify and notify Building Control on your behalf — fully compliant, with no separate application required.

Grant funding: The EV Chargepoint Grant provides up to £350 off the cost of a home charger for eligible properties. We can advise you on eligibility when you book your survey — no obligation.

6 reasons to switch to a dedicated home charger

If any of these apply, a home charger will immediately improve your daily EV ownership experience.

01

You own or have ordered an EV

A dedicated home charger is the single biggest quality-of-life upgrade for any EV owner. Stop planning charge stops and start every day with a full battery.

02

You're relying on a 3-pin plug

Three-pin plug charging is slow, inconvenient, and puts sustained load on a socket not designed for it. A dedicated charger is faster and safer.

03

You want to charge on cheaper tariffs

Smart chargers can schedule charging during off-peak hours automatically — potentially cutting your charging costs by two thirds or more.

04

You're moving to a new property

Before you complete on a new home, book a survey to assess the best position for a charger and confirm the installation can be done before you move in.

05

You're converting a garage or driveway

A new garage or driveway is the ideal time to install an EV charger — routing is easier, work can be coordinated, and the result is cleaner.

06

You're a landlord or business owner

EV charging is an increasingly expected amenity for rental properties and commercial premises. We install commercial-grade chargers for fleets and multi-unit residential.

How an EV charger installation works, start to finish.

A home EV charger installation is typically a half-day job — survey, cable run, charger fitted, tested and commissioned. Here's exactly what to expect.

Most home EV charger installations take 3–5 hours from arrival to commissioning. Duration depends on cable run length and proximity of the consumer unit.

Survey & charger selection

We visit to assess your property — consumer unit location, cable routing options, and the best position for the charger. We advise on the right charger type and confirm the fixed price.

Dedicated circuit run

A new circuit is run from your consumer unit to the charger location, with all cables correctly clipped, trunked, or concealed according to your preference.

Charger installation & commissioning

The charger is fixed in position, connected, and commissioned — including app setup and Wi-Fi pairing if the unit supports smart charging.

Certification & handover

Every circuit is tested. You receive your Electrical Installation Certificate and Building Regulations notification on the day, plus full instructions for your charger.

Common questions about EV charger installation

What type of charger do you install?

We install all major brands of 7kW single-phase smart chargers — including Hypervolt, Ohme, Zappi, Andersen, and Pod Point, among others. We'll advise on the best unit for your vehicle and home setup during your survey.

How fast will my car charge with a home charger?

A 7kW home charger adds around 25–30 miles of range per hour of charging. Most EVs with a 50–75kWh battery will reach a full charge overnight — starting each day with a full battery without ever visiting a public charger.

Can you install a charger if I don't have a driveway?

A driveway or private parking space is required for a home charger installation — the cable cannot cross a public pavement. If you don't have off-street parking, we can advise on workplace or community charging alternatives.

Do I need planning permission for a home EV charger?

In most cases, no — home EV charger installation is permitted development for houses. Flats and listed buildings may need consent. We'll flag any planning considerations during your survey.

Is the EV Chargepoint Grant still available?

Yes. The EV Chargepoint Grant provides up to £350 off the cost of a home charger for eligible properties. Eligibility depends on property type and other factors — we can advise you on your specific situation when you book.

Can you install a charger at the same time as a consumer unit upgrade?

Yes — and this is often the most efficient approach. If your existing consumer unit doesn't have a spare way for the EV circuit, we can upgrade the board and install the charger in the same visit.

How long does the installation take?

Most home EV charger installations take 3–5 hours from arrival to commissioning, including the cable run, charger fit, app setup, and certification. We'll give you an accurate estimate when we survey.
